Day 1

26th November: Arrive & Settle in

Upon arrival at Baghdad International Airport (BGW), you will be greeted by a pre-arranged transfer to your hotel. After check-in, take some time to rest and then meet up with the team.

Enjoy an afternoon city tour of Baghdad, featuring iconic sites such as the statues and monuments such as Firdos Square (where Saddam Hussein's statue was famously toppled in 2003), Tahrir Square, and the Martyr's Monument.

End the day with a traditional Iraqi group dinner.

Day 2

27th November: Let the Adventure Begin in Baghdad 

Explore the rich history of Baghdad's Old Town.
We’ll visit one of the craziest & busiest markets in the world, including the Al Safafeer copper market, the antique market, Souq al Sarai, and the famous book market on Al Mutanabbi Street.

Visit notable cultural and historical sites like the Madrasa Mustansiriyah and the Clock of Qishla. Take a break at one of Baghdad’s well-known cafes, such as Oum Kalthoum Cafe or Shabandar Cafe, for coffee or tea.

Wrap up the day by watching the sunset over Baghdad from Taq Kasra. Enjoy a traditional Iraqi dinner of Masgoof fish, with alternatives available.

Navigating a Land of Rich History and Tradition

Day 3

28th November: Babylon & Karbala

Begin your early morning journey to the legendary city of Babylon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site rich with ancient history. Start by exploring the reconstructed Ishtar Gate, then marvel at the original walls of Babylon, the iconic Processional Way, and the foundations of the real Ishtar Gate. Wander through Babylonian temples, stand before the famed Lion of Babylon statue, and navigate the intricate maze of the northern and southern palaces, including the site where Alexander the Great met his end.

Next, step into a different era as you explore one of Saddam Hussein's opulent palaces, built in the 1980s, offering a striking view of the ancient city below.

After a delicious lunch, continue your journey to Karbala, a revered destination in Shia Islam. As evening falls, immerse yourself in the splendor of the golden shrines of Imam Hussein and Abbas. Stroll through the vibrant area connecting the two sanctuaries, mingle with locals, savor traditional sweets, and soak in the spiritual atmosphere. Overnight: Karbala.

Day 4

29th November - 2nd December: Explore Karbala fortress and Najaf

After breakfast, we’ll set off for the desert outskirts of Karbala to explore the impressive fortress of Al-Ukhaidhir, a massive medieval castle steeped in history. In the afternoon, we’ll make our way to Najaf, pausing to visit Wadi al-Salam, the largest cemetery in the world, where millions of Shia Muslims are laid to rest in proximity to Imam Ali.

Upon arrival in Najaf, immerse yourself in the beauty of the golden dome of the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib. Take your time to appreciate the shrine and browse the bustling markets that surround it, offering a rich tapestry of local culture and craftsmanship.

Day 5

30th November: Time to Relax or Adventure on your on time

Enjoy a free day in Baghdad! Take the opportunity to explore the vibrant markets, hunt for unique souvenirs, and savor more delicious Baghdadi cuisine. This is a perfect chance to relax and recharge before we head north for the second part of our journey.

For those interested, optional organized tours of additional monuments, museums, and cultural sites will be available, allowing you to delve deeper into the rich history of the city while sticking with the group.

Day 6

December 1st: Samara & Hatra & Mosul

After breakfast, we’ll set off for Samarra to explore the Great Mosque of Samarra and its iconic twisted minaret. If you’re up for the challenge, climb to the top of the minaret for stunning views of the city—not for the faint of heart.

In the afternoon, we’ll continue our journey to Mosul, with a stop to visit Hatra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its remarkable archaeological treasures. As we arrive in Mosul right at sunset, you’ll witness the beauty of one of Iraq's largest and most diverse cities.

Indulge in dinner at one of Mosul's fantastic restaurants, where you can enjoy the rich flavors of local cuisine.

Day 7

December 2nd: Mosul

Tour Mosul, starting with the Old Town, which was the last stronghold of ISIS and suffered extensive damage during the battle for the city. Visit the Christian Syriac church where Pope Francis held mass in March 2021, a symbol of resilience and hope. Explore the Al-Nuri Mosque and its iconic minaret, witnessing firsthand how this vibrant city is rebuilding after years of occupation.

Take time to visit some of Mosul’s heritage sites, enjoying views of the Tigris River and the cityscape. Later, immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of Mosul's bustling markets, where you can experience local culture and shop for unique goods.

Day 8

3rd December: Exploring Mar matti & Erbil

Set out early in the morning for the historic Mar Mattai Monastery, perched atop Mount Alfaf. Recognized as one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world, it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding villages.

After our visit, we’ll drive 70 kilometers to Erbil, where we’ll explore the magnificent Citadel of Erbil, an impressive testament to the region's rich history. Following that, take a leisurely stroll through downtown Erbil, immersing yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of its bustling market.

DAY 9

4th December: Lalish & Rawanduz 

After breakfast, we’ll make our way to Lalish Temple, the holiest site for the Yazidi faith, celebrated for its intriguing and mysterious beliefs within the Abrahamic religions. Following lunch, we’ll head north to the picturesque district of Rawanduz, where you can marvel at the stunning canyons and cascading waterfalls.

To conclude the day, we’ll set out on a hiking adventure in the Barazan region, renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and captivating landscapes.

We’ll return to Erbil for the night.

Day 10

30th November: Camping in Dukan 

After breakfast, we will leave Erbil early in the morning, heading toward the beautiful province of Sulaimaniya. On our way, we’ll meet our Kurdish camping guide and continue our drive to Kanishok, located 30 km from Tasluja.

Here, we’ll enjoy a short hike lasting about an hour and a half, leading us to stunning waterfalls. After our hike, we’ll make our way to Lake Dukan for camping, which is about 20 km from Kanishok. Our goal is to arrive before sunset to fully appreciate the evening sky. Finally, we’ll head to the Choman area, where we will set up camp for the night.

Day 11

30th November: Sulimaniyah & Dukan 

In the morning, after breakfast, we’ll gear up for an exciting kayaking adventure at Bok w Zawa Gorge, a breathtaking natural formation. We’ll enjoy kayaking and swimming in this stunning location before heading to Sulaymaniyah city in the afternoon. Once we check in, we’ll take a stroll to the vibrant city market.

If time allows, we’ll drive outside the city to Goizha Mountain for a panoramic view that will leave you in awe.

Final Day

Day 12

29th November - 2nd December: Depart back to Erbil for departure.

We will depart for Erbil as we conclude our journey. Upon arrival, you’ll have the option to either spend the night in Erbil, allowing you to explore the city further and enjoy its vibrant atmosphere, or you can choose to fly directly out on the same day if you prefer to head home. If you decide to stay, take the opportunity to visit local attractions, dine at a traditional restaurant, or shop for last-minute souvenirs before your departure.
